29. Chromeo – White Women

White Women
“White Women” by Chromeo

Country: Canada
Release date: 12 May 2014
Label: Last Gang Records

“Women are eyeing me
Their men are buying me
Drinks at the bar
You can’t go far
In this society
So why you coming at me, homie
With so much acrimony?
Your testimony’s phoney
And the truth is you don’t know me”

If you liked the funky electro disco tunes featured on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories then chances are rather high that you’ll like “White Women” as well. Chromeo wants you to dance. They lure you in with catchy melodies and songs about sex. Once you get caught there’s no standing still!

After accusations of being sexist and, the band states that they simply like to be weird and play with sexuality in a non-traditional way. Regardless of what you think about that, this is a deliciously funky album. I also really like Ozzie’s snappy comeback on “Sexy Socialite” (the quote above).

“Jealous (I Ain’t With It)” (official music video)

“Come Alive” (feat. Toro y Moi) (official music video)

“Old 45’s” (official music video)
